Budding Creative Genius

As we sailed into Lockdown 1.0 I found time to begin explore the possibility of me having any sort of creative side. I have dabbled with creative writing over the years but playing the guitar is very much a new thing. The various processes will help keep me entertained

I am sure. However there will be plenty of room for things to go awry but hopefully will give people a laugh if nothing else in these dark times. In principle there will be two main creative categories :

  • Writing
  • Drawing

Within each category will be examples of the stories or songs or drawings that I have produced. Over time I hope to add to these with more examples of things I have created.

Writing

For a while I was paid to write blogs about living in the countryside by a national on line magazine. I mainly wrote about my life & the antics of the two springer spaniels we had. Prior to that I had penned the odd short story & had one published in a leading national women’s magazine when I won the short story competition they sponsored.

Since then I have mainly written for my own benefit. The blog was mainly to record some of the ups & downs of becoming a retired person. I am not entirely sure who reads any of my writing these days if I am honest & what they might make of it. All I know is that it helps me to navigate my way.

Drawing

I have always enjoyed art. My earliest memories include ones of me colouring in large paper books with crayons. At school I was always the happiest when we had to illustrate things & I still have my old pencil case. However free hand drawing with pencils is one thing using a digital pencil requires a whole new set of skills.

The examples I have shared may look to some as simplistic & a tad amateurish but everyone has to start somewhere. I found the hand eye co-ordination so much harder when I had to look at a computer screen while I drew. Not only that but I had to try & learn how the actual software worked too.

All the computer skill I have are the results of hours of self tuition indeed even this blog site is included in the process. The latest being is trying to curate the writing to meet the demands of the search engines. There is definitely an art to this style of writing which is very different to what I learnt in school a long time ago.

Deciding to leave the umbrella of a word press .com site for a more independent .co.uk was a big leap. I am still working on the new site to improve how it looks & functions. Definitely a work in progress like so many of my projects.
