Fortune smiled on me when I  stumbled across Danny Wright. Not only did I enjoy listening to his music he ended up writing a song for me. The lyrics are very apt to the time of life I was at & captured some of the feelings I was experiencing.

Re Discovering Yourself

At the time I thought that you had to be a poet to be able to write songs. However attending a song writing workshop dispelled that notion. However poetry is a skill & it takes all sorts of word smiths to produce the vast array of material that literature is made up

Although I love reading & writing I confess I am not much of a poet. Having looked at how songs are structured I am not totally convinced that being a poet could help that endeavour either.

Bored of the Bard?

I recall having to write limericks & the odd verse at school.  Poetry was part of the curriculum & focused on Shakespeare & Chaucer. I recall having to ‘translate’ huge portions of the latter which is probably what put me off!

Social media can be a blessing or a curse depending on your point of view. My posts must have been riding the right algorithm & I was able to connect with others who thought the same as me.  Sarah Dell was one of these people.

Retiring can be a tough gig. Losing your social identity combined with the tsunami of ageism is quite tiring. I know that I am not the first to experience these feelings. In fact talk to any woman around my sort of age & they would probably say the same.

Men may also have these feelings too however I can’t comment on that as I have no real idea. It strikes me that for them it may be even more of a time of identity crisis but is not really talked about.

Still it was really lovely of a complete stranger to send   a poem written just for me & for you to read

For anyone thinking of taking poetry writing more seriously then the poetry society   may be able to provide inspiring ideas.
